The portfolio renewal team defines the requirements for the new product (or services offering) portfolio architecture based on NUD needs from the segments. Numerous ideas are matched with market opportunities that bound the target environment for the new portfolio. The ideas are then grouped and linked to form candidate portfolio architectures. Each of the architectures represents one mix of offering ideas that has the potential to fulfill the business strategy and meet financial growth goals. Once a number of candidate portfolio architectures are defined, they are transferred to the teams that conduct technology planning and development, along with the portfolio requirements. The early work of technology development is now linked to the output from the IDEA process. Technology is no longer allowed to develop in a vacuum. It is tied to your strategy in a very traceable and measurable format.
