Above all, interviewers need the ability to listen and to record accurately. One agency which uses personality tests to select its interviewers requires that on a neuroticism/stability scale they should be just on the stability side of the scale. Too far along the emotional stability scale and they would be such 'suet puddings' that it would be difficult for them to be able to obtain the interview in the first place. On the extraversion/introversion scale interviewers should be just on the extraverted side of the scale. Too extraverted an individual would not have the sensitivity to listen truly to their respondent, but too introverted an individual would not be able to obtain an interview in the first place. The same agency also uses a lie scale in selecting appropriate people as interviewers.
