Personal interviews

In personal interviews, respondent and interviewer speak face to face. At one time it was a very popular way of conducting surveys, particularly in-home interviews for consumer products. Today, the in-home personal interview is no longer a popular research method. It is expensive and generates a low response rate unless a great deal of time is spent in making call-backs. Fewer people are at home when interviewers are most likely to want to call.

Personal interviews now are largely conducted in shopping precincts. Shopping precincts are now a way of life in metropolitan areas, as is personal interviewing in these locations. Personal interviews are also conducted at business and professional locations.
