Economic censuses

Economic censuses include the census of production and the census of distribution.

The census of production, taken every five years, provides data on shipments (in both units and money terms) of thousands of manufactured products. Shown by Standard Industry Classification (SIC) numbers and descriptions, these data can pinpoint exactly where particular items are produced.

The census of distribution provides basic information on the structure of retail areas of distribution. Since 1976 it has been superseded by annual sample enquiries.
