Employ great people and you stand a real chance of becoming a giant. People rarely leave great teams. But you should not count on this. If yours is a short, time-critical project, it is not unreasonable to ask for an understanding before you invite anyone to join you that they not move jobs during the course of the project. Explain, if you can, that this is in everyone's interest. If, for example, there is a $5,000 bonus for each member of the staff if the project comes in on time and a single person leaves to take a job paying $10,000 more than their current project salary, they are only $5,000 better off and they have won the lifelong resentment of all their former teammates.
