Applying the Concepts

1. British cultural influence and, in particular, the English language can be observed in a wide range of countries including Canada, Australia, New Zealand, India, Pakistan, South Africa, and the United States. In fact, these countries are often referred to as the Anglosphere. How might the fact that English, as the international business language, aid or impair international businesses?

2. The French in particular are somewhat down-hearted about the dominance of the English language in business (http://news.bbc.co.Uk/1/hi/world/europe/6341795.stm). What steps could be taken to protect languages from becoming little more than regional dialects?

3. Saudi Arabia began the implementation of a new law in 2008 that banned the advertisement of baby milk, food substitutes, baby bottles, and pacifiers. The Saudi Ministries of Health and Commerce will enforce the new law, which is designed to encourage new mothers to breastfeed their infants. The new law does not limit a mother's choice to use alternative milk products if she chooses. The ban is on the advertisement of alternative products, including banning the distribution of free samples at hospitals and clinics. To what extent does this restrain trade?
